How to Make an ATS-Friendly CV (Without Looking Boring)
Create an ATS-friendly CV that automated screening software can parse while remaining clear and persuasive for hiring managers.
Use the employer’s language
Include relevant skill and role terms from the job description. Use them naturally and only when they genuinely describe you. Mirror exact tool names when accurate.
Choose a clear structure
Standard headings such as Profile, Experience, Education and Skills are safest. Keep important information as real text rather than icons, charts or text inside images.
Do not keyword-stuff
Repeating terms unnaturally hurts readability and credibility. One accurate example of applying a skill is more persuasive than a long keyword dump.
Export a clean, selectable PDF
Check that text can be selected in your PDF. Eventiors uses browser-native PDF output so content remains readable text rather than a flat image.
Test the basics before applying
Copy your PDF text into a plain text editor. If headings and bullets still make sense, ATS systems are more likely to parse your CV correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Are fancy CV templates bad for ATS?
Complex multi-column layouts and graphics can confuse some systems. Eventiors templates keep text selectable and use clear section labels.
Is PDF or Word better for ATS?
Most modern systems handle clean PDFs well. Follow the employer’s instructions if they ask for a specific format.
